The problem
When Microsoft released Azure DevOps Wiki, developers were thrilled — now they had a great and easy place to keep documentation, and it did work well for developers loving to write Markdown. But that’s where it froze.
The rest of the team can’t contribute comfortably, since there’s no rich text editor. Creating visualizations was limited to a few Mermaid charts and requires writing advanced Mermaid syntax.
Markdown evolved - Azure DevOps Wiki didn’t keep up. For years, users have asked Microsoft for a better wiki experience in Azure DevOps. The lack of development has pushed teams toward full collaboration suites - a bigger switch than most teams actually want to make. The end result is disconnected teams, workflows and frustrated developers.
Why Wiki PRO?
Wiki PRO takes Azure DevOps Wiki further and brings a better Wiki experience both for developers and stakeholders. Developers can continue writing in Markdown. Business stakeholders use familiar Word-style rich text editing. Everyone contributes — no compromises, no migration, no retraining. Wiki PRO bridges the gap between developer-first tools and full collaboration suites, purpose-built for development teams and their stakeholders.
We listened to community feedback and feature requests and built a wiki extension that works alongside the existing Azure DevOps Wiki while adding meaningful improvements and new capabilities. So far, we have delivered 6 of the top 10 Developer Community requests for Azure DevOps Wiki, with 20+ items from the top 30 requests currently on our product roadmap.
- Wiki PRO works side by side with the native Azure DevOps Wiki — same data, same API, no migration required.
- Wiki PRO is freemium — core features are free for everyone, with no registration or credit card required.
- Wiki PRO is built for developers, stakeholders, and business users alike. Use the easy-to-use rich text editor or the full Markdown editor — the choice is yours.
📝 Make everyone a contributor
Give everyone a way to contribute. The rich text editor makes it easy for stakeholders and business users to edit wiki pages comfortably, while the full Markdown editor provides developers with the experience they expect.
📊 Create better documentation
Use modern Markdown with alerts and admonitions, and create and maintain diagrams directly in your wiki with full Mermaid support and Draw.io integration.
🔎 Help people find information faster

📈 Understand and govern documentation
Add structure and governance with page metadata and tagging. Wiki Analytics helps you understand usage through page views, top contributors, and engagement trends.
📄 Publish and share professionally
Export individual pages or entire wiki trees to professionally formatted Word documents using your organization's Word template.
How it works
Wiki PRO is an Azure DevOps extension that only consist of static web resources hosted by Microsoft (or your own server if you run onprem) and executes in you browser, just like the Azure DevOps website.
- Reads and writes through the same Azure DevOps Wiki data and API as the native wiki — nothing is duplicated or stored elsewhere.
- No migration step — your existing pages, history, and links stay exactly where they are, new pages and edits show up in the native wiki.
- Uses your existing Azure DevOps identities and permissions and groups — no separate identity or access model to manage.
- Runs inside your Azure DevOps organization — no external services required to view or edit wiki content.
